Behind the work: "Windward"

Painted from photographs taken aboard a working shrimp boat over two seasons in the Gulf. Completed in 2023, it's oil on canvas at 1420 × 850 mm, and it comes from Sigrid Lunde's studio in Bergen — original — full rights transfer.

How it was made

Sourcing materials — the specific linen weave, a particular pigment line, a paper with the right tooth for pastel — matters more to a finished piece's long-term durability than most collectors think about, and more than most artists talk about publicly.

Failure in the studio rarely looks dramatic — it's usually a passage quietly reworked into something else entirely, with the original idea abandoned so gradually that even the artist has trouble reconstructing what the piece looked like a dozen sessions earlier.

What it's worth knowing before you buy

Watercolor's transparency comes from pigment sitting on top of paper rather than being bound into a thick paint film, which is exactly why watercolor demands UV-protective glazing that oil and acrylic can often do without.

The choice between an open edition and a limited one is a choice about what a piece is for — an open edition invites the widest possible audience at an accessible price, while a limited run treats scarcity itself as part of the work's value.

Like the rest of Sigrid Lunde's work, "Windward" ships with a signed certificate of authenticity and a condition report photographed the day it's packed — the same protection that applies to every physical sale on Bello, regardless of price.
