Christopher Le Brun is a distinguished British painter, sculptor and printmaker whose career has been internationally recognised since the 1980s. Born in Portsmouth, England, in 1951, Le Brun has developed a diverse practice that moves fluidly between figurative and abstract art, grounded in a deep engagement with art history, colour, form and the physical process of painting. His work is characterised by an intuitive approach to composition, combining expressive gesture, rich colour and materiality. In recent years, he has explored modular and multipart compositions, creating complex canvases, triptychs and monumental works that expand the possibilities of abstract painting. Le Brun served as President of the Royal Academy of Arts in London from 2011 to 2019 and was awarded a knighthood for services to the arts in the 2021 New Year Honours. His work is held in major international collections, including Tate, the Museum of Modern Art and The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the British Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Yale Center for British Art, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. He is represented internationally by Lisson Gallery, Almine Rech and Albertz Benda.
