Inside the collection: Wet Paint, Once

Outdoor landscapes finished in a single sitting and never reworked indoors — three canvases painted at the pace the light allowed. All 3 pieces come from Joris Maes's studio, released together rather than as a scattered set of one-offs.

The throughline

Insuring a home collection is worth doing before, not after, the first piece worth insuring arrives — most standard homeowner policies cap fine-art coverage well below what a modest collection is actually worth within a couple of years of active buying.

Buying internationally used to mean navigating customs paperwork nobody explained clearly until something got stuck at a border; a marketplace that handles shipping logistics on the seller's side removes most of that uncertainty without removing the collector's ability to buy from anywhere.

Where to start looking

Numbering a hand-pulled edition sequentially as it sells, rather than all at once before release, is a small but meaningful choice — it means the number on a print reflects the actual order collectors bought it, not an arbitrary assignment.

Outside critique, even informal, changes what an artist notices in their own work — a second pair of eyes tends to catch the passage an artist has looked at so many times they've stopped actually seeing it.

"The Vantage" is the clearest entry point into the "Wet Paint, Once" collection — from there, the rest of the sequence reads less like separate purchases and more like chapters of the same idea.
