Exhibition notes: One Form, One Ground

Marta Vroom's grid-built abstractions, from a single square worked eleven times to an open-edition field that got away from itself. The show brings together 3 pieces across 1 artist, opening with Marta Vroom's "Null Field."

What's on view

Presales — collecting interest or deposits before a piece is finished — let an artist gauge demand without discounting, and let early collectors lock in a price before a body of work has had the chance to build a reputation that moves it.

A secondary market — collectors reselling to each other — is usually a sign a marketplace has matured past its first wave of buyers, and its absence in a newer platform isn't a red flag so much as a stage every market goes through.

Why these pieces belong together

The easiest mistake a new collector makes is buying to fill a wall rather than buying to start a conversation with a piece — the two produce very different collections five years on, even when the individual purchases looked similar in the moment.

Collectors who visit a piece more than once before buying — even just returning to the same online listing across a few days — tend to report fewer regrets than collectors who buy on the first look, which says less about impulsiveness and more about how attention itself changes an assessment.

The show has since closed, though every piece in it remains available individually — start with "Null Field" for a sense of the range on view.
